Joshua Presley – 2/20/2024
My name is Joshua Presley. I am a former student of the inspirational Cheri Foster between 2000 and 2001, my Junior and Senior years at Russell High School, in Russell, Kentucky. I said that Mrs. Foster is inspirational meaning; that she leads by example and teaches through faith with guidance, perseverance, kindness, strength, hope and love. I was in awe of her, and the way she interacted with me, and to this day, I’m still inspired by her. She’s a supportive teacher who not only mentors her students but the parents as well.
She has a kind smile, warm embrace and is an important role model for all kids. She creates a pleasant environment that you, your spouse and especially your child will forever remember, even after they’ve graduated, Cheri Foster will be remembered because she’ll consider your child her friend rather than her student. That is exactly how I felt then and how I feel to this day.
She was patient with me, she was thorough, and she always corrected me, even when I thought I was right. She treats all her students with a motherly tone and a big sister personality. She’ll be your child’s number one fan, as well as being their biggest supporter. She loves helping kids further their goals, beliefs and always gives them the benefit of the doubt. She’s a woman of faith and her belief in God is just amazing to witness.
I am thankful that God brought Mrs. Foster into my life those many years ago. I still keep in touch with her. Even though she has told me numerous times to call her Cheri, she’ll always be Mrs. Foster to me because that’s how much respect I have for Mrs. Cheri Foster.
Thank-you, Josh Presley
Mrs. Foster has played a pivotal role in my success by helping me with life skills and assisting me in getting into college. Her helping me get into college and connecting me with Vocation Rehab has got me set up on a path to success receiving a bachelors in space systems engineering and soon a master’s as well. This would not be possible without her help.
My son was a student of Mrs. Foster. His vision and hearing began failing at age 13. She was an expert in the field and helped him navigate the educational environment as he moved from a hearing to functionally non-hearing student. She helped him get vision services in case his vision failed more. She worked with standardized testing groups to help him get accommodations and was a liaison for him with teachers as he learned to advocate for himself. She was instrumental in helping him learn of and apply for scholarships. She worked with him to get in contact with disability coordinators at colleges and remains open to him for any needs.
Mrs. Foster became my son’s teacher when he was a sophomore in high school. He had previously been homeschooled. I was very apprehensive to make this change but the experience has been amazing and I credit Mrs. Foster. She goes above and beyond to help, not only her students, but their parents as well. If we have an issue at home, she is ready with educated suggestions and advice. She understands a myriad of complex issues that her students face and she approaches these issues with understanding and compassion. I am excited she is making her expertise available to others in addition to her school family.
The things Mrs Foster has helped me with
Special needs skills, how to live on my own, how to pay bills, how to cook, how to socialize, and how to be a better person.
This is a former student that is working toward certification in phlebotomy.
